Check this Out: Tonebee.com

ToneBeeWell I made an announcement last Sunday in one of my post that I would be releasing a new feature that would be released on Saturdays. Well, it is Saturday and this is the first one! Tonebee.com is a free website to create your own ringtones from MP3s that you already have.

Register:

When I first visited the site I was impressed by the simplicity of the web page. It took about 30 seconds to register on the site and start creating my first ringtone. The e-mail came with a confirmation link in it that you must click before you can begin to use the website. When I logged in there was a link to add credits, but when clicked on it currently displays a message that Tonebee is currently free to use for a limited amount of time.

First Impression:

After logging in you are presented with a simple dashboard where you will have to enter some personal details, your name, sex, and birthdate. After you enter those details you are able to go into the ringtone creator and editor or click “Surprise”. The surprise page has a list of videos of songs that you can create ringtones from or you can click some of the links to find out more about the song/video and artist.

Ringtone Creator:

The ringtone creator is extremely easy to use. First load a song to begin the process, after it is uploaded it will begin a search for the song and see what clips have already been created. You can choose one of those and it will automatically set the position of the clip and all you will have to do is save it. You have to save it to your computer, they currently don’t provide a way to get the ringtone automatically onto your phone. You can use websites that allow you to upload files and download them onto your phone, or if your phone supports it you could transfer the ringtone using a data cable.

Microsoft Extends XP’s Life

Microsoft has decided to once again extend the life of Windows XP, for low cost and low spec computers. Users have been making petitions ever since Vista was released to save Microsofts’ Windows XP and they partially got their wish when Microsoft announced that the life cycle of the product would be extended for these computer manufacturers. SaveXP has over 100,000 users who have signed the petition to keep XP around longer, most of the users believe that currently there is no reason to switch to the resource hungry Windows Vista. PC World even posted an article showing that Windows XP is sometimes even faster then Windows Vista SP1. Likely the low cost Eee PC which runs XP will benefit most from the new extension. The Eee PC will launch on April 9th with a reported cost of $400.

Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for our new feature, Check This Out. We will be providing an in depth review into a Web 2.0 site or application.

Myspace Launches Music Service

Myspace MusicAs expected, today Myspace held a teleconference where they released details about their planned music service. The service is not available yet, but the details released makes it sound extremely promising. They are taking an amazon approach to delivering music and will deliver the downloads in an unprotected MP3 format. The service will also stream free ad supported music and will offer a ringtone selection as well. The goal of this new service is to make Myspace the source for music buying and enjoyment on the web. From the details released it appears that the Myspace Music service will combine what Last.fm, Amazon MP3, and various ringtone services have been providing for a while but allow users to access all of the features in one place.
